Home Education Legalities in Manitoba

Education in Manitoba is governed by the The Public Schools Act. The sections on school attendance start at section 259.

Compulsory school age is from the first day of school in September of the calendar year in which the child turns 6, to whatever day the student stops attending school after reaching age 16 (but the exemption from compulsory attendance becomes void if they start attending again after stopping).

Section 262 states:

No person is guilty of an offence under subsection 260(2) for failing or refusing to ensure that his or her child attends school if […]
(b) the field representative certifies that in his opinion the child is currently receiving a standard of education at home or elsewhere equivalent to that provided in a public school;
